The Story
The podcast investigates a Russian spy ring operating in plain sight of British politics, revealing connections between Conservative Party members and Russian lobbyists including in the lead up to the Brexit referendum. With law enforcement and intelligence services largely silent, this event asks the urgent question: Why was nothing done?
Our Legal Fight
In 2020, the Citizens and a cross-party group of MPs launched legal action against the UK government for failing to investigate foreign interference. Though the case was dismissed in the UK, it has now been taken up by the European Court of Human Rights as a landmark case for democracy.
What’s Next
Two days before this event, on May 12th, we will be campaigning in Parliament demanding a public inquiry. With recent developments — like Elon Musk expressing interest in funding Reform UK — the issue of foreign interference in British politics is more urgent than ever.
